Rainbow Steps Preschool Page 3 Parent Handbook We are so pleased that you have chosen Rainbow Steps for your child! We will do all that we can to be sure that your child feels happy, safe and excited about school and learning. We’re happy to have your family as a part of our Rainbow Steps community. Welcome! Philosophy and Goals Rainbow Steps philosophy is based on personalized instruction following developmentally appropriate practices. We believe that children should be involved in a supportive, creative, nurturing environment as a first step in the transition from home to a school setting. We believe that children can develop a broad base of knowledge, a love for learning, and positive social interactions through a quality, caring, well-planned preschool experience. The goals of Rainbow Steps include: • Providing a safe, cheerful, nurturing environment for a positive introduction to a first school experience. • Nurturing in each child feelings of self-confidence, self worth, and pride in accomplishments. • Promoting proper relations with peers and other adults; encouraging proper, positive, social interactions, grace, courtesies, and manners. • Providing a knowledge of the basic skills needed to ensure a readiness for and success in Kindergarten. • Providing a welcoming atmosphere; involving parents in school events and activities. • Retaining quality staff that will work as a team to develop a total learning environment that provides a developmentally appropriate curriculum based on the needs and abilities of the children and their natural curiosities. • Encouraging each child to explore, experience, discover, create, cooperate, succeed, and enjoy preschool! Days of Operation Rainbow Steps classes are conducted from September to mid-May. Our office is staffed Monday through Thursday, 8:30 am to 3:30 pm. An administrator is available daily and on Fridays by appointment. Staff can be reached at any time by calling the office and leaving a message. Holidays and School Breaks are the same as those of Pickerington Local School District. A school calendar is given to parents before the beginning of the school year, listing specific dates and events. In case of inclement weather, Rainbow Steps will close when Pickerington schools close. If Pickerington schools are on a morning delay, Rainbow Steps will follow an amended schedule. Morning classes will meet from 10 to 12. Afternoon classes will meet from 1 to 3. Enrollment Before enrolling in Rainbow Steps Preschool, parents are encouraged to tour the facility and meet with an administrator. After completing the initial registration form and paying the registration fee, parents are required to complete the following forms: • Enrollment and Health Information form
