Rainbow Steps Handbook

Rainbow Steps Preschool Page 5 Parent Handbook Preschool Daily Schedule Teachers are encouraged to schedule and plan their day to meet the needs and interests of the children in their class. The above is a sample schedule of the Preschool day. Parents will be given a schedule for their child’s class and a schedule is posted in each classroom. However, all classrooms have a quiet area where a child can rest and have a break from active play. Outdoor play is encouraged as part of our daily schedule. The Ohio state regulatory agency governing preschool activities is Ohio Department of Job and Family Services (ODJFS). The guidelines permit outdoor play when temperatures are between 25 and 90 degrees Fahrenheit. The ODJFS regulations offer considerations for outdoor play including, but are not limited to, temperature, humidity, wind chill, ozone levels, pollen count, rain, lightening or ice. We will play outside when conditions permit. Please dress your child for the weather. Tennis shoes or other closed-toe shoes are recommended to allow children to run and climb safely. Arrival and Dismissal While at Rainbow Steps, children will be supervised at all times. Attendance is taken and noted as each child arrives. Children do not arrive from other programs or activities, (as in school to day care situations) but in order to account for our children, please call the office and let us know if your child will be absent. Arrival and dismissal times can be busy and congested. We have developed a system to help with the transition times from the car to school and back again. We encourage you to use the drop off and pick up lines. Children may never be dropped off outside of the building. • Follow the traffic lines to Door B (3-day classes) or Door C (Pre-K classes). Please remain in your car and a teacher will greet children, help them out of the car and into the entrance. At the end of the class session, please follow the traffic lines and a teacher will bring your child to the car. We have found that the drop-off, pick-up lines are very convenient for our families with younger siblings and especially during inclement weather. It also keeps our children safer as they will not be walking through the parking area with cars
